Theatre In Education
Theatre in Education (T.I.E)
At Helston Community College, I formed a Theatre in Education group. We met on a Wednesday afternoon and the students named themselves Treehouse Productions. They designed a logo and we had t-shirts printed to really become a company. A piece of original theatre was created in response to a Balinese fairy-tale all about the importance keeping promises. The students also created a workshop and teachers’ follow up pack. We visited some local primary schools and performed to year 4 pupils. My students then led a workshop with the children and they shared what they had created afterwards. Maybe you have a group of students who would benefit from meeting once a week and using Drama to explore and express themes that are important? Their work could be shared to other groups of students. Get in touch if you would like to discuss some ideas.
